Align the cover plate with the light source and adjust the focus until the scale is clear. Calibration accuracy depends on careful calibration at an ambient temperature of about 68F, using distilled water.
Open the cover plate, place 2-3 drops of distilled water on the prism, close the cover plate, and ensure the water spreads evenly. Wait for about 30 seconds for the reading to stabilize. Use the screwdriver to adjust the calibration until it reads "0."
